Join O-YA’s Youth Advisory Committee (YAC)!
O-YA’s YAC is a volunteer group for youth in Grades 7–12 who live in rural south Ottawa. As a YAC member, you’ll play a key role in planning and running four major community events each year:
The 'Goode Run (May) 🎽 – Cheer on racers as part of the Hype Squad, interact with the crowd, play games with kids at Race Central, hand out medals, and more!
Summer Block Party (June) 🎉 – Help plan the activities in advance, set up and tear down, and supervise stations on the day of.
Haunted Trail (October) 👻 – Perform as scarers along our spooky course through O-YA’s back field and the multi-use pathway.
Christmas in the Village (December)🎄 – Make and hand out hot chocolate on O-YA’s front patio during the Santa Parade.
Being part of YAC is hands-on and creative! You’ll attend about three planning meetings before each event, where you’ll develop themes, brainstorm activities, manage event budgets, and even build structures and costumes. Then, on event days, you’ll take the lead—running activities, engaging the community, and making each event unforgettable (with some support from O-YA staff).
We think you’re going to love being part of YAC! Plus, it’s a fantastic way to earn high school Community Service hours.
