BIGGEST Block Party in 150 Years!
The BIGGEST Block Party in 150 Years lived up to its name on June 10! With about 400 guests, beautiful sunshine and all the Block Party's unique activities, we had an epic day. The Block Party was a product of the hard work, dedication and creative spirit of our youth volunteer committee. A special thanks goes out today to Emma Brooks, Keegan Kilfoil, Jenna Baker, Sarah Yeaton, Morgan Kilfoil, Noah McKerracher and Aidan Whitehead. You were each given a ton of responsibility to run activities yesterday - and handled everything with a professionalism that I am very proud of. Congratulations on a FANTASTIC event! Thank you as well to Courtney Rock from Rural Ottawa South Support Services - ROSSS, Tracey Nesrallah for organizing the Great Canadian Cookie Competition, Aerial View McKerracher for helping to organize and trouble shoot, Trevor Alguire Band for the entertainment, Joshua Bishop for Oysters 101, Log Cabin Orchard for the authentic Mexican Tacos and Churros (YUM!), Funlight Laser Tag, Alina Sauve for Henna Tattoos and everyone who entered the Great Canadian Cookie Competition and Sidewalk Art Contest. What a day!!!!
This BIGGEST Block Party in 150 Years was hosted by O-YA and ROSSS (Rural Ottawa South Support Services) and funded in part by the City of Ottawa's Rural Community Building Grant. As part of O-YA's 2016 Teen Leadership Camp, Councillor George Darouze and Mayor Watson challenged the teens to help O-YA and ROSSS come up with ideas for an event to celebrate Canada's 150th Anniversary. The BIGGEST Block Party in 150 Years was a product of this challenge. The youth came up with some fantastic activities and have continued on to be part of our Block Party Planning Committee.
