Have you always wanted to run a 5K race, but have no idea when, where or how to start training? Have you been running a bit but need help with technique? Or, are you looking to join a weekly group of dedicated runners to help keep you motivated? The Learn to Run a 5K Series is for you!
Learn To Run will be hosted by community volunteers (and seasoned runners) Linda Panich, Mary Blaney, Andrea Ross and Matt Nesrallah (with a few special guests along the way!). Hosts will each share running tips from their own experience, but our focus will be on warm up, stretches, strides and actually running!
Please note that the Learn To Run program is a rain / snow / sun activity. Please dress for the weather as we will be outside for approx. one hour each week regardless of what the weather is doing! An exception to this rule is if there is significant accumulating snow, freezing rain or thunder / lightening. We will email if Learn To Run is cancelled because of this.
JUST ANNOUNCED!
Learn To Run's Tuesday, April 3 evening will include an instructional session with noted running instructor Mike Stashin. Mike is a running instructor based in Ottawa who has a passion for introducing runners to simple changes they can make in their technique to reduce the amount of effort as well as the potential for injury due to impact.
Mike has used the techniques he teaches to successfully complete endurance events such as Running 14 Marathons in 14 Consecutive Days, the 250km Marathons Des Sables, the 273km Grand to Grand Ultra, the 100 Mile Yukon Arctic Ultra and the 254km Jungle Marathon. He has also used his running as a gateway for adventures which have included adventure Marathons at the North Pole and along the Great Wall of China.
Mike volunteers his time to O-YA to support our Learn To Run Run Series, and he is actively involved in supporting the philanthropist efforts of Impossible2Possible and regards the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) as its favorite beneficiary for its charitable contributions.
